Getting around from Malkaganj: metro, buses and how far things really are

Malkaganj sits just south of Delhi University's North Campus, close enough that most of campus is a walk rather than a commute, and close enough to two different metro lines that the rest of Delhi stays reachable.
Here is what that means day to day.
All distances below are approximate, measured on foot from our gate at 1, Block G, Malkaganj.
Two metro lines, two directions
Vishwavidyalaya (Yellow Line) — about 1.8 km, roughly 22 minutes on foot, or a short auto ride. The Yellow Line is the one you want for Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, Hauz Khas and Gurgaon.
Pul Bangash (Red Line) — about 1.3 km, roughly 16 minutes. The Red Line runs east–west, towards Kashmere Gate for the interstate bus terminal and onward to Shahdara.
Having both within walking distance is genuinely unusual for this area, and it is the difference between one interchange and two on most journeys.
Campus is a walk
- Hansraj College — about 0.8 km, roughly 10 minutes
- Shri Ram College of Commerce — about 1.1 km, roughly 13 minutes
- Kirori Mal College — about 1.6 km, roughly 20 minutes
- Hindu, Ramjas, St. Stephen's, Faculty of Arts, Delhi School of Economics — a cluster around 1.8–1.9 km, roughly 22 minutes
- SGTB Khalsa, Miranda House, Daulat Ram — about 2.0–2.1 km, roughly 24–25 minutes
A ten-minute walk to your own college changes the shape of a day. You go back between classes. You do not plan around a commute. On the mornings you are late, it is a five-minute cycle.
Food and markets
Kamla Nagar is the closest proper market — about 0.7 km, roughly 9 minutes. Everything from stationery and phone repairs to eating out. It is the default answer to most "where do I get…" questions.
Hudson Lane is further, about 3 km, and is where you go deliberately rather than incidentally — cafés, longer sittings, the North Campus evening.
Malka Ganj market itself is at the end of the road, a few minutes' walk, and covers pharmacies, ATMs, groceries and the daily small things.
Essentials worth knowing
- Hindu Rao Hospital — about 0.5 km, roughly 7 minutes
- St. Stephen's Hospital — about 1.5 km, near Tis Hazari
- Pharmacies, banks and ATMs — inside Malka Ganj market, 2 to 4 minutes on foot
Knowing where the nearest hospital is before you need it at 2am is worth the thirty seconds it takes to read this line.
Buses
The Malka Ganj stop is a few minutes away and connects to Kashmere Gate, Azadpur and central Delhi. For most students the metro plus walking covers everything, but buses are cheaper and often faster than a jammed auto in the evening.
What the geography actually buys you
Living in Malkaganj rather than deeper inside the campus bubble means slightly more walking and meaningfully more quiet. You are outside the noisiest streets, but still inside the fifteen-minute radius that matters.
